Nevada Camera Club Presents the 2013 Photographer of the Year Award

Nevada Camera Club has named Douglas Walsh as the recipient of the prestigious NCC 2013 Photographer of the Year Award. Each year, the Nevada Camera Club member who accumulates the highest total Merit Award points earned in NCC Monthly Competitions and competitions approved by NCC is named as the Photographer of the Year. NCC Membership Dues Renewal

Nevada Camera Club annual membership dues are due for renewal on January 1, 2014. The annual membership fee is $36 for adults, $24 for juniors (ages 17 and under) and $24 for seniors (ages 63 and over). Bring the appropriate membership fee payment to the NCC General Meeting on November 8 or on November 22, 2013 or mail the payment to the following address:

When renewing your membership dues, please make sure we have your current mailing address, E-mail address and phone number.

NCC Photography Workshop Coordinated by Allan Duff on November 8, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club November 2013 Program Meeting features a workshop with a variety of workstation set-ups coordinated by the NCC Programs Chairman, Allan Duff. This is a hands-on workshop and participants should bring their own camera and tripod. Each workstation illustrates the use of a unique photographic discipline and technique for an expanded learning experience. Individual workstations include:

  • Electrical arc sphere.
  • Water droplets.
  • Flowers.
  • Animals.
  • Light orbs.
  • Crystal ball.
  • Models with photographic lighting.

In addition to the photography workstations, photographic equipment vendors will be displaying a variety of photography products.

The workshop coordinator, Allan Duff, has been a Nevada Camera Club member since 1999. He has served the organization as President for two terms and currently serves as Programs Chairman and Executive Board Member. Allan is a frequent judge and image evaluator at Nevada Camera Club Monthly Competitions. His service to the club and photographic achievement earned him the Nevada Camera Club Horizon Award and a Life-Time Membership in NCC.

NCC Program Presentation by Larry Hanna on September 13, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club September 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by professional photographer Larry Hanna. He will present his program, Food Photography - Lighting and Styling. In this presentation, Larry communicates photographic lighting techniques specific to food and beverage, how to control natural light, how to use and control artificial light and how to achieve the recording of food texture and color for maximum appeal. Larry describes how selective focus and the use of props helps with food photography and he provides styling tips and tricks. He also communicates the differences between advertising and editorial food photography.

Larry Hanna is a Las Vegas based advertising and editorial photographer with a worldwide clientele. Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, Larry initially pursued a career in medical research. He earned his master's degree in biochemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and was working on his doctorate in physiology at Vanderbilt University when he decided to forego his career in medical research to pursue his passion of photography. After working for several years in Los Angeles, he moved to Las Vegas in 1976, where his parents had lived since 1967. Larry quickly found his niche in photography for the hospitality industry, providing his clients with the full gamut of photographic services they require. He is skilled in architectural, interior, food, gaming and entertainment photography. Although the majority of his studio's work is within the hospitality industry, Larry produces a variety of photography projects for national as well as local clients. In addition to his photography work, Larry is an instructor at College of Southern Nevada Department of Media Technologies, teaching courses in Photographic Business Practices and Food Photography and Styling. Additionally, Larry conducts his own photography workshops including a vast variety of subjects and he also offers personalized one-on-one training.

Larry was awarded the Professional Photographers of America Master Photographer degree and Craftsman Photographer degree. He was named Nevada Photographer of the Year four times by the Professional Photographers of Nevada (PPN). He has served as President of the Professional Photographers of Nevada and President of the Advertising Photographers of America Las Vegas Chapter. He also served as National Secretary of Advertising Photographers of America (APA). Gallery Exhibition Public Reception: Nevada Camera Club 2013 Juried Exhibition

The Nevada Camera Club 2013 Juried Exhibition gallery opening and artists' reception will take place at the Las Vegas Clark County Library District Rainbow Library on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The exhibit features Nevada Camera Club members' photographs selected for exhibition by an independent panel of photographic art judges. The public is invited and admission is free.

NCC Program Presentation by Benjamin Rodriguez, M.D. on August 9, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club August 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by Benjamin Rodriguez, M.D. He will present his program, Worldwide Medical Service and Photography, in which he shares his travels to many parts of the world while donating his time to medical service and photographing the people, cultures and countryside.

Benjamin Rodriguez, M.D. specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery. He is a graduate of the University of Nevada, School of Medicine. Dr. Rodriguez was certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine in 1992 and by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1997.

Each year, Dr. Rodriguez donates his time traveling to Third World and war torn countries to operate on less fortunate people who otherwise have no opportunity to have their physical deformities corrected. Over time, he has taught, assisted colleagues and performed surgery in numerous countries including China, Bolivia, Russia, India, Egypt, Jordan, Vietnam, Kenya, Cambodia and Ecuador.

Dr. Rodriguez has spent a lifetime enjoying and mastering his medical practice and also the art of photography. He has accumulated a large collection of photographs over his years of travel. Nevada Camera Club is Judging the Henderson Libraries 2013 Summer Reading Photography Contest

Nevada Camera Club is providing judging services to Henderson Libraries for their 2013 Summer Reading Photography Contest. The contest theme is "Breaking New Ground." The contest is open to anyone of any age with a Henderson Library card. Entry submission is now through August 24, 2013. Nevada Camera Club 2013 Annual Electronic Image Competition Award Winners Announced

Nevada Camera Club is pleased to announce the award winners in the NCC 2013 Annual Electronic Image Competition. Douglas Walsh is the Best of Show winner in the Color Division for his photograph Milk and Honey and he is also the Best of Show winner in the Monochrome Division for his photograph Heading Home. The Best of Show awards earned Douglas Walsh two $100.00 cash prizes and two Best of Show ribbons. NCC 2013 Annual Electronic Image Competition Exhibition Opening Reception

The Nevada Camera Club 2013 Annual Electronic Image Competition exhibition opening, artists' reception and multimedia presentation will take place at the Las Vegas Clark County Library District Whitney Library on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. A multimedia presentation of all competition entries will be shown. Exhibition prints made from the division winning entries in each category will be displayed in the gallery along with an exhibition of prints by Nevada Camera Club Photographer of the Year, Douglas Walsh.

NCC Program Presentation by Dan Ballard on July 12, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club July 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by travel and landscape photographer Dan Ballard. He will present his program, Unlocking Your Photographic Potential, in which he communicates his thoughts and insights from many years of teaching as well as his ideas and insights derived from studying new scientific research on the human brain. Dan's presentation is directed toward unlocking photographic and creative potential, improving practical skills and taking photography to the next level.

Dan Ballard is a travel and landscape photographer who has visited over fifty countries on five continents. His photographs have been exhibited in museums and galleries and published globally in magazines and calendars. Dan has a passion for teaching his art. He has been a featured speaker internationally at symposiums, festivals, trade shows and workshops. NCC Program Presentation by Doug Bibo on June 14, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club June 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by Doug Bibo. He will present his program, Printing Like a Pro, in which he provides training and tips on printing better quality images and shows some of his own photography.

Doug Bibo earned bachelor's degrees from Illinois Wesleyan University and Brooks Institute of Photography. He managed the Brooks Institute Color Department for several years and later managed a professional photo lab. Doug is currently employed as a photographer, lab technician and course instructor at College of Southern Nevada Department of Media Technologies. His personal photography interests include photographing ghost towns and ruins which he finds intriguing as links to our cultural past. Doug recently started to explore the realm of night photography.

NCC Program Presentation by Scott Bourne on May 10, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club May 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by photographer and author Scott Bourne. He will present his program, Why Photography Matters, in which he shares why he has spent 40 years pursuing photography with passion.

Scott Bourne is known as a digital media pioneer. His photography has appeared in more than 200 books, magazines, newspapers, television programs, fine art galleries and websites. He is the author of seven photography books including Going Pro, The Basic Beginner's Guide to Photography Light & Exposure and Secrets of HDR. Scott has led workshops and seminars and spoken at numerous photography events including Palm Beach Photographic Center, National Association of Photoshop Professionals, National Association of Broadcasters, MacWorld, Wedding & Portrait Photographers International and Professional Photographers of America. NCC Program Presentation by Adam Barker on April 12, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club April 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by active lifestyle and outdoor photographer Adam Barker. He will present his program, Behind the Lens: An Evening with Adam Barker, in which he provides a look behind his lens and reveals the stories behind some of his favorite landscape, active lifestyle and travel photographs. Adam will give an intimate insight into the technical and creative details that contribute to his photographs. He will take the audience on a virtual trip around the globe as he shares his photographs from his visited destinations. Adam will also discuss the importance of photographic fundamentals such as engaging the viewer through composition, when and how to use landscape filters, balancing challenging exposures, seeing with a unique eye and more. Additionally, Adam will detail some of his favorite equipment that have aided him in capturing his award winning images over the years. Finally, he will open up the floor for an intimate Q & A session, giving attendees an opportunity to gain further insight and instruction.

Adam Barker, at just 33 years of age, has become known for bold landscape and active lifestyle photographs and his love affair with exceptional imagery has translated into stirring editorial work for numerous publications including Outdoor Photographer, Skiing, Ski, Powder, Flyfish Journal, USA Today, The Drake and Mountain Magazine. He has drawn praise for his teaching style at workshops both domestic and abroad and has drawn similar accord for his instructional DVDs. Adam has produced photographs for a variety of commercial clients including Nike, Black Diamond Equipment, Volkswagen of America, Deer Valley Resort and Suunto Watches. When not photographing, Adam can be found enjoying family time with his wife and three sons or performing product tests in the mountains, on the river or wherever else nature calls to him. NCC Program Presentation by Darrell Gulin on March 8, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club March 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by professional nature travel photographer Darrell Gulin. He will present his program, Current Adventures Near and Far, in which he will show his photographs from Holland, Turkey, the Norwegian High Arctic, South Georgia in the South Sandwich Islands and the Carnival of Venice in Italy.

Darrell Gulin was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He earned his Business degree from the University of Washington. Darrell has been photographing for over 23 years and has been actively marketing his work over the last 21 years. For the past 14 years, he has worked as a full time nature Photographer, marketing his work through editorial markets, stock agencies, workshops and seminars. Darrell's photography has been showcased in major nature calendars including Audubon, Sierra Club, Kodak, Browntrout, Cedco, Nature Conservancy, Greenpeace, Day Dream and Inner Reflections. Darrell's vast library of stock photography is represented by Corbis, Getty Images, Natural Selection, DRK Photo, Dembinsky Photography Associates, Danita Delimont Agency and Botanica. His photographs have been published in numerous periodicals including Outdoor Photographer, Outdoor & Nature, Newsweek, National Geographic, Audubon, Wilderness, National Wildlife, Birder's World, Sunset, Nature Conservancy, Popular Photography and Natures Best. NCC Program Presentation by Robert Park on February 8, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club February 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by Robert Park. He will present his program, The Anatomy of a Photo Trip, in which He discusses planning, preparing and going on a photo shoot.

Robert Park studied industrial art before launching his career in industrial design. In 2000 Robert relocated to Utah to capture the unparalleled light and drama of the Colorado Plateau. In 2010 Robert partnered with wildlife photographer Art Wolfe and botanical photographer Robert Rotella to launch The Natural Wonders Galleries in Las Vegas and Soho. Driven by expressing the beauty and voice of nature, Robert continuously explores nature to fulfill his artistic goals. Traveling with his large format 5x7 inch transparency film camera and his custom made panoramic camera, Robert photographs at the edge of light and weather to capture his images and communicate his artistic vision. Nevada Camera Club 2013 Annual Print Competition Award Winners Announced

Nevada Camera Club is pleased to announce the award winners in the NCC 2013 Annual Print Competition. Harriet Smith and Craig Hicks are each recipients of a $100.00 cash prize and a Best of Show ribbon. Harriet is the Best of Show winner in the Color Division for her print Power Surge and Craig is the Best of Show winner in the Monochrome Division for his print Old & Older.
