NCC Program Presentation by Benjamin Rodriguez, M.D. on August 9, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club August 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by Benjamin Rodriguez, M.D. He will present his program, Worldwide Medical Service and Photography, in which he shares his travels to many parts of the world while donating his time to medical service and photographing the people, cultures and countryside.

Benjamin Rodriguez, M.D. specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery. He is a graduate of the University of Nevada, School of Medicine. Dr. Rodriguez was certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine in 1992 and by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1997.

Each year, Dr. Rodriguez donates his time traveling to Third World and war torn countries to operate on less fortunate people who otherwise have no opportunity to have their physical deformities corrected. Over time, he has taught, assisted colleagues and performed surgery in numerous countries including China, Bolivia, Russia, India, Egypt, Jordan, Vietnam, Kenya, Cambodia and Ecuador.

Dr. Rodriguez has spent a lifetime enjoying and mastering his medical practice and also the art of photography. He has accumulated a large collection of photographs over his years of travel. NCC Program Presentation by Dan Ballard on July 12, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club July 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by travel and landscape photographer Dan Ballard. He will present his program, Unlocking Your Photographic Potential, in which he communicates his thoughts and insights from many years of teaching as well as his ideas and insights derived from studying new scientific research on the human brain. Dan's presentation is directed toward unlocking photographic and creative potential, improving practical skills and taking photography to the next level.

Dan Ballard is a travel and landscape photographer who has visited over fifty countries on five continents. His photographs have been exhibited in museums and galleries and published globally in magazines and calendars. Dan has a passion for teaching his art. He has been a featured speaker internationally at symposiums, festivals, trade shows and workshops. NCC Program Presentation by Scott Bourne on May 10, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club May 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by photographer and author Scott Bourne. He will present his program, Why Photography Matters, in which he shares why he has spent 40 years pursuing photography with passion.

Scott Bourne is known as a digital media pioneer. His photography has appeared in more than 200 books, magazines, newspapers, television programs, fine art galleries and websites. He is the author of seven photography books including Going Pro, The Basic Beginner's Guide to Photography Light & Exposure and Secrets of HDR. Scott has led workshops and seminars and spoken at numerous photography events including Palm Beach Photographic Center, National Association of Photoshop Professionals, National Association of Broadcasters, MacWorld, Wedding & Portrait Photographers International and Professional Photographers of America. NCC Program Presentation by Adam Barker on April 12, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club April 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by active lifestyle and outdoor photographer Adam Barker. He will present his program, Behind the Lens: An Evening with Adam Barker, in which he provides a look behind his lens and reveals the stories behind some of his favorite landscape, active lifestyle and travel photographs. Adam will give an intimate insight into the technical and creative details that contribute to his photographs. He will take the audience on a virtual trip around the globe as he shares his photographs from his visited destinations. Adam will also discuss the importance of photographic fundamentals such as engaging the viewer through composition, when and how to use landscape filters, balancing challenging exposures, seeing with a unique eye and more. Additionally, Adam will detail some of his favorite equipment that have aided him in capturing his award winning images over the years. Finally, he will open up the floor for an intimate Q & A session, giving attendees an opportunity to gain further insight and instruction.

Adam Barker, at just 33 years of age, has become known for bold landscape and active lifestyle photographs and his love affair with exceptional imagery has translated into stirring editorial work for numerous publications including Outdoor Photographer, Skiing, Ski, Powder, Flyfish Journal, USA Today, The Drake and Mountain Magazine. He has drawn praise for his teaching style at workshops both domestic and abroad and has drawn similar accord for his instructional DVDs. Adam has produced photographs for a variety of commercial clients including Nike, Black Diamond Equipment, Volkswagen of America, Deer Valley Resort and Suunto Watches. When not photographing, Adam can be found enjoying family time with his wife and three sons or performing product tests in the mountains, on the river or wherever else nature calls to him. NCC Program Presentation by Darrell Gulin on March 8, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club March 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by professional nature travel photographer Darrell Gulin. He will present his program, Current Adventures Near and Far, in which he will show his photographs from Holland, Turkey, the Norwegian High Arctic, South Georgia in the South Sandwich Islands and the Carnival of Venice in Italy.

Darrell Gulin was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He earned his Business degree from the University of Washington. Darrell has been photographing for over 23 years and has been actively marketing his work over the last 21 years. For the past 14 years, he has worked as a full time nature Photographer, marketing his work through editorial markets, stock agencies, workshops and seminars. Darrell's photography has been showcased in major nature calendars including Audubon, Sierra Club, Kodak, Browntrout, Cedco, Nature Conservancy, Greenpeace, Day Dream and Inner Reflections. Darrell's vast library of stock photography is represented by Corbis, Getty Images, Natural Selection, DRK Photo, Dembinsky Photography Associates, Danita Delimont Agency and Botanica. His photographs have been published in numerous periodicals including Outdoor Photographer, Outdoor & Nature, Newsweek, National Geographic, Audubon, Wilderness, National Wildlife, Birder's World, Sunset, Nature Conservancy, Popular Photography and Natures Best. NCC Program Presentation by Robert Park on February 8, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club February 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by Robert Park. He will present his program, The Anatomy of a Photo Trip, in which He discusses planning, preparing and going on a photo shoot.

Robert Park studied industrial art before launching his career in industrial design. In 2000 Robert relocated to Utah to capture the unparalleled light and drama of the Colorado Plateau. In 2010 Robert partnered with wildlife photographer Art Wolfe and botanical photographer Robert Rotella to launch The Natural Wonders Galleries in Las Vegas and Soho. Driven by expressing the beauty and voice of nature, Robert continuously explores nature to fulfill his artistic goals. Traveling with his large format 5x7 inch transparency film camera and his custom made panoramic camera, Robert photographs at the edge of light and weather to capture his images and communicate his artistic vision. NCC Program Presentation by David Jesse McChesney on January 11, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club January 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by David Jesse McChesney. He will present his program, The Mojave Desert: Miles of Wonder. In this presentation, David provides travel and photography advice for those who wish to get the most out of their Mojave Desert adventures. His presentation is illustrated with his photographs from the Mojave Desert region including wildlife, birdlife, wildflowers, night skies, reptiles and insects.

David Jesse McChesney is a nature and wildlife photographer, lecturer, photography tour guide, author and nature conservationist who has photographed much of the western hemisphere and 54 of America's National Parks over the past 39 years. He is the author of The Mojave Desert: Miles of Wonder and Muir Roots: At One with the Wild. David is the advanced photo instructor for the Desert Institute at Joshua Tree National Park in the southern Mojave Desert where he makes his home. NCC Program Presentation by Larry Lindahl on September 14, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club September 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by professional landscape and travel photographer, Larry Lindahl. He will present his program, Secret Sedona and the Ancient Southwest. In this presentation, Larry displays his vivid images of the secret and sacred places of Sedona, the Grand Canyon and the American Southwest. Larry will talk about his experiences, discoveries, photo techniques and the innovative methods he uses to create his images as a full-time professional landscape and travel photographer.

Larry Lindahl attended Washington State University and graduated from the Burnley School for Professional Art. Larry's photography has been featured in Arizona Highways, Outdoor Photographer and in showcase books about the beautiful backcountry of the American Southwest. He is an avid explorer, photographer and writer who has published magazine articles about backpacking throughout Grand Canyon. The Smithsonian Institute is currently showing his photograph, Desert View Watchtower, in their exhibit Lasting Light: 125 Years of Grand Canyon Photography. Larry's newest book, Arizona Kicks on Route 66, illustrates his long time interest in Route 66 and the best preserved section of the old highway stretching 158 miles from the California border toward Flagstaff, Arizona. The book features Larry's photographs of 1950's era gas stations, diners and motels with their vintage illuminated neon signs. NCC Program Presentation by Allan Duff on August 10, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club August 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by Allan Duff. He will present his program, Indian Ruins of the Southwest. For the past 10 years, Allan has been photographing Anasazi Indian ruins in the well known locations and also some very remote locations of the southwest United States within the Four Corners area of northern Arizona, northwestern New Mexico, southern Utah and southwestern Colorado. Allan's presentation will show his photographs of Anasazi Indian cliff dwellings, towers and kivas and provide instructions on how to access them and how to photograph them.

Allan Duff grew up in southern California. He and his family have lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for thirty-two years. Allan is a Senior Vice President at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. He has enjoyed photography since he was a child and photography has become his personal passion. His photographic interests are diversified and he takes every opportunity to photograph people, landscapes, nature and wildlife. Allan has received a number of awards for his photography, including winning the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney annual company-wide photo contest three years in a row. Allan has been a Nevada Camera Club member since 1999. He has served the organization as President for two terms and currently serves as Programs Chairman and Executive Board Member. Allan is a frequent judge and image evaluator at Nevada Camera Club Monthly Competitions. His service to the club and photographic achievement earned him the Nevada Camera Club Horizon Award and a Life-Time Membership in NCC.

NCC Program Presentation by JoMar Alwes & Leslie Gertie on January 13, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club January 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by JoMar Alwes and Leslie Gertie in which they present their program, JoMar Alwes & Leslie Gertie Shed a Little Light on the Dark Continent - Africa. Leslie and JoMar will show their best photographs from three weeks on safari in Kenya and Tanzania in 2008 and over a month on safari in Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa and Uganda in 2011. Leslie and JoMar will also share the process they went through to plan these trips and discuss what photographers need to know when going on a safari in Africa. The presentation also includes short videos produced by Leslie from a hot air balloon ride over the Namib desert, a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls and a close encounter with a large mountain gorilla.

Growing up as an "army brat", Leslie Gertie moved frequently with her family to various locations around the world including Cambodia while she was in grade school and Thailand while she was in high school. Until 1973 when Leslie arrived in Las Vegas, she had never resided in any one place longer than three years. Leslie has been employed in the Clark County Public Works Department as a construction inspector for the last 19 years. In recent years, Leslie has pursued her photographic interest through travel, hiking and camping in a variety of unique locations including Alaska, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Africa.

JoMar Alwes grew up on a dairy farm in Illinois and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois. He served in the Navy during the Viet Nam War as the Diving Officer and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer aboard the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) aircraft carrier. For personal recreation, JoMar has hiked over 1,000 miles within the Grand Canyon and has led a backpack trip from Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park across the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Devils Post Pile near Mammoth Lakes. In 2001, JoMar hiked Mount Kilimanjaro and reached the 19,341 foot Kibo summit. He then spent a week tent camping on safari in the Serengeti and other parks in Tanzania and then a week on safari in Kenya. JoMar recently retired as a right-of-way agent from the City of North Las Vegas.
