NCC Program Presentation by Larry Hanna on September 13, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club September 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by professional photographer Larry Hanna. He will present his program, Food Photography - Lighting and Styling. In this presentation, Larry communicates photographic lighting techniques specific to food and beverage, how to control natural light, how to use and control artificial light and how to achieve the recording of food texture and color for maximum appeal. Larry describes how selective focus and the use of props helps with food photography and he provides styling tips and tricks. He also communicates the differences between advertising and editorial food photography.

Larry Hanna is a Las Vegas based advertising and editorial photographer with a worldwide clientele. Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, Larry initially pursued a career in medical research. He earned his master's degree in biochemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and was working on his doctorate in physiology at Vanderbilt University when he decided to forego his career in medical research to pursue his passion of photography. After working for several years in Los Angeles, he moved to Las Vegas in 1976, where his parents had lived since 1967. Larry quickly found his niche in photography for the hospitality industry, providing his clients with the full gamut of photographic services they require. He is skilled in architectural, interior, food, gaming and entertainment photography. Although the majority of his studio's work is within the hospitality industry, Larry produces a variety of photography projects for national as well as local clients. In addition to his photography work, Larry is an instructor at College of Southern Nevada Department of Media Technologies, teaching courses in Photographic Business Practices and Food Photography and Styling. Additionally, Larry conducts his own photography workshops including a vast variety of subjects and he also offers personalized one-on-one training.

Larry was awarded the Professional Photographers of America Master Photographer degree and Craftsman Photographer degree. He was named Nevada Photographer of the Year four times by the Professional Photographers of Nevada (PPN). He has served as President of the Professional Photographers of Nevada and President of the Advertising Photographers of America Las Vegas Chapter. He also served as National Secretary of Advertising Photographers of America (APA). Additional information about Larry and a selection of his photographs are available for viewing on the Larry Hanna Photography web site.
