NCC Program Presentation by David Jesse McChesney on January 11, 2013

The Nevada Camera Club January 2013 Program Meeting features a presentation by David Jesse McChesney. He will present his program, The Mojave Desert: Miles of Wonder. In this presentation, David provides travel and photography advice for those who wish to get the most out of their Mojave Desert adventures. His presentation is illustrated with his photographs from the Mojave Desert region including wildlife, birdlife, wildflowers, night skies, reptiles and insects.

David Jesse McChesney is a nature and wildlife photographer, lecturer, photography tour guide, author and nature conservationist who has photographed much of the western hemisphere and 54 of America's National Parks over the past 39 years. He is the author of The Mojave Desert: Miles of Wonder and Muir Roots: At One with the Wild. David is the advanced photo instructor for the Desert Institute at Joshua Tree National Park in the southern Mojave Desert where he makes his home. Nevada Camera Club Presents the 2012 Photographer of the Year Award

Nevada Camera Club has named Douglas Walsh as the recipient of the prestigious NCC 2012 Photographer of the Year Award. Each year, the Nevada Camera Club member who accumulates the highest total Merit Award points earned in NCC Monthly Competitions and competitions approved by NCC is named as the Photographer of the Year. Douglas Walsh is now a three time POY Award recipient. A selection of images by Douglas Walsh is available for viewing on the Nevada Club web site Photographer of the Year page.

NCC Membership Dues Renewal

Nevada Camera Club annual membership dues are due for renewal on January 1, 2013. The Nevada Camera Club annual membership fee is $36 for adults, $24 for juniors (under 18) and $24 for seniors (over 62). Bring the appropriate membership fee payment to the NCC General Meeting on November 16 or on January 11, 2013 or mail the payment to the following address:

NCC Program Presentation by John Batdorff on November 9, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club November 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by John Batdorff. He will present his program, Black and White Photography: From Snapshots to Great Shots. In this presentation, John communicates how to pre-visualize a scene in black and white by understanding contrast, texture and lighting and then how to develop a digital workflow for black and white images by understanding and using post processing techniques. John's presentation is illustrated with his own award winning images.

John Batdorff is an award winning landscape and travel photographer who is a nationally recognized authority on black and white photography. John conducts photography workshops in Chicago and several U.S National Parks. He also teaches photo editing classes and provides advanced level mentorships in his Chicago studio. John has authored three photography books and an instructional DVD. He has Marketing and Journalism degrees from Western Michigan University. NCC Program Presentation by Val Brinkerhoff on October 12, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club October 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by Val Brinkerhoff. He will present his program, Reading & Photographing Sacred Architecture. Val is an Associate Professor of Photography in the Brigham Young University Visual Arts Department where he teaches courses ranging from portrait photography to advanced digital imaging. He has authored or coauthored seven books. Three of his most recent books are centered on unlocking the visual symbolism of sacred architecture. Val’s fine art print work has been exhibited widely and his photography and writing have been featured in periodicals including Photo Life, Photo Electronic Imaging, Photo Techniques, Darkroom Photography, Petersen's PHOTOgraphic and Modern Photography. NCC Program Presentation by Larry Lindahl on September 14, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club September 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by professional landscape and travel photographer, Larry Lindahl. He will present his program, Secret Sedona and the Ancient Southwest. In this presentation, Larry displays his vivid images of the secret and sacred places of Sedona, the Grand Canyon and the American Southwest. Larry will talk about his experiences, discoveries, photo techniques and the innovative methods he uses to create his images as a full-time professional landscape and travel photographer.

Larry Lindahl attended Washington State University and graduated from the Burnley School for Professional Art. Larry's photography has been featured in Arizona Highways, Outdoor Photographer and in showcase books about the beautiful backcountry of the American Southwest. He is an avid explorer, photographer and writer who has published magazine articles about backpacking throughout Grand Canyon. The Smithsonian Institute is currently showing his photograph, Desert View Watchtower, in their exhibit Lasting Light: 125 Years of Grand Canyon Photography. Larry's newest book, Arizona Kicks on Route 66, illustrates his long time interest in Route 66 and the best preserved section of the old highway stretching 158 miles from the California border toward Flagstaff, Arizona. The book features Larry's photographs of 1950's era gas stations, diners and motels with their vintage illuminated neon signs. NCC Program Presentation by Allan Duff on August 10, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club August 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by Allan Duff. He will present his program, Indian Ruins of the Southwest. For the past 10 years, Allan has been photographing Anasazi Indian ruins in the well known locations and also some very remote locations of the southwest United States within the Four Corners area of northern Arizona, northwestern New Mexico, southern Utah and southwestern Colorado. Allan's presentation will show his photographs of Anasazi Indian cliff dwellings, towers and kivas and provide instructions on how to access them and how to photograph them.

Allan Duff grew up in southern California. He and his family have lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for thirty-two years. Allan is a Senior Vice President at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. He has enjoyed photography since he was a child and photography has become his personal passion. His photographic interests are diversified and he takes every opportunity to photograph people, landscapes, nature and wildlife. Allan has received a number of awards for his photography, including winning the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney annual company-wide photo contest three years in a row. Allan has been a Nevada Camera Club member since 1999. He has served the organization as President for two terms and currently serves as Programs Chairman and Executive Board Member. Allan is a frequent judge and image evaluator at Nevada Camera Club Monthly Competitions. His service to the club and photographic achievement earned him the Nevada Camera Club Horizon Award and a Life-Time Membership in NCC.

NCC Photography Workshop Coordinated by Allan Duff on July 13, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club July 2012 Program Meeting features a workshop with a variety of workstation set-ups coordinated by the NCC Programs Chairman, Allan Duff. This is a hands-on workshop and participants should bring their own camera and tripod. Each workstation illustrates the use of a unique photographic discipline and technique for an expanded learning experience. Individual workstations include:
  • Neon sign.
  • Electrical arc sphere.
  • Soap bubbles.
  • Water droplets.
  • Flowers.
  • Parrot.
  • Colorfully backlighted cut crystal candy dish.
  • Models with photographic lighting.
  • Digital SLR sensor cleaning demonstration.
    • Participants should bring their camera user manual.
  • Photographic print evaluations.
    • Participants may bring a maximum of three prints for review.
In addition to the photography workstations, Sigma Corporation of America is providing lenses in a variety of camera body mounts and focal lengths for free use during the workshop.
 
The workshop coordinator, Allan Duff, has been a Nevada Camera Club member since 1999. NCC 2012 Annual Electronic Image Competition Exhibition Opening Reception

The Nevada Camera Club 2012 Annual Electronic Image Competition exhibition opening, artists' reception and multimedia presentation will take place at the Las Vegas Clark County Library District Whitney Library on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. A multimedia presentation of all competition entries will be shown. Exhibition prints made from the first place entries in each category will be displayed in the gallery along with an exhibition of prints by Nevada Camera Club Photographer of the Year, Susan Webb.

NCC Program Presentation by John Williams on June 8, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club June 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by underwater photographerJohn Williams. He will present his program, Photographing the Water World, in which he shares his tips, techniques and equipment selection. John will show his underwater landscapes and sea life photographs from a vast variety of spectacular locations around the world including Palau, Northern Mariana Islands, Hawaiian Islands, Fiji, Australia, Ecuador, Galapagos, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Bahamas, Cayman Islands and the California coast. John is a certified open water scuba diver and a master instructor for the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). Scuba diving and underwater photography are John's recreational passions spanning more than 25 years. In business, John is the President of Yesco, LLC. His company is the provider of custom signs and electronic displays seen everywhere around Las Vegas and the surrounding area.

The Nevada Camera Club 2012 Juried Exhibition will be displayed in the Las Vegas Clark County Library District Laughlin Library Gallery beginning Saturday, May 26, 2012. The exhibit features Nevada Camera Club members' photographs selected for exhibition by an independent panel of photographic art judges. The public is invited and admission is free.

NCC Program Presentation by Gary W. Potts on May 11, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club May 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by Gary W. Potts. He will present his program, Photographic Judging: Warts and All, in which he dispels some of the myths about judging and judges. He provides tips and suggestions for the improvement of competition images and the improvement of judging. Although mostly subjective, judging can be done in a concise, professional and non-offensive manner. Recent published work on photographic judging will be included in the presentation along with the showing of selected award winning images from Photographic Society of America PSA-recognized International Exhibitions of Photography. Gary's program presentation is candid, lively, informative and directed toward all photographers regardless of their level of photographic achievement.

Gary Potts began his interest in photography at the age of 14 when hired to work part time at a camera store in Bedford, Indiana. He went on to become the photo editor for the Purdue University yearbook in 1968 and he was forever hooked on the art and science of photography. He earned his BSIE and MSIE degrees from Purdue University. Gary is now an Adjunct Professor in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration; University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Gary has been a Photographic Society of America member since 1979. He actively participates in PSA-recognized International Exhibitions in which his photographs have received hundreds of exhibition acceptances. Gary's International Exhibition achievement has earned him multiple PSA Star Ratings, publication in the PSA annual Who's Who in Photography and earned him the PSA Recognition of Photographic Achievement PPSA title.

Gary joined Nevada Camera Club after moving to Las Vegas from Indiana in 2003. He was named Nevada Camera Club Photographer of the Year in 2009. Gary is a frequent judge and image evaluator at Nevada Camera Club Monthly Competitions. His service to the club and photographic achievement earned him the Nevada Camera Club Horizon Award and a Life-Time Membership in NCC. Gary currently serves Nevada Camera Club as Vice President and Executive Board Member.

NCC Program Presentation by Robert O'Toole on April 13, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club April 13, 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by nature and wildlife photographer Robert O'Toole. He will present his program, A Journey Through the World of Wildlife Photography in Alaska, in which he communicates the experience of photographing in Alaska, the importance of knowing the subject and how to have fun while photographing. Robert will share the latest techniques, equipment, camera set-ups and shooting strategy. His techniques will help everyone to be better prepared for capturing wildlife action anywhere in the world.

Award winning professional photographer Robert O'Toole was named American Bald Eagle Foundation Photographer of the Year in 2008. His vertical banking Bald Eagle image was recognized as Highly Commended in the BBC Wildlife Magazine 2006 competition. Robert has been a professional photographer for more than 20 years. He has worked as a commercial and advertising photographer and now specializes in nature and wildlife photography. An accomplished photographic instructor, Robert has lead photography workshops both internationally and in the United States for the past six years. The Nevada Camera Club 2012 Juried Exhibition gallery opening and artists' reception will take place at the Las Vegas Clark County Library District Centennial Hills Library on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. NCC Program Presentation by Tyler Stableford on February 10, 2012

The Nevada Camera Club February Program Meeting features a presentation by Tyler Stableford, Canon USA Explorers of Light Group Member. Tyler will present his Capturing The Dramatic Moment program in which he takes the audience behind the scenes of his latest assignments, from exploring rare ice caves to documenting the dangerous lives of underground coal miners. He will also screen his award winning short film "The Fall Line." A teacher at heart, Tyler reveals his secrets to capturing the elusive dramatic moment.

Tyler Stableford is an award winning adventure photographer and filmmaker who has earned an international clientele. Tyler has won numerous awards from Photo District News, the International Photography Awards, Communication Arts, American Photo and National Geographic Traveler. Men's Journal named him one of the seven "World's Greatest Adventure Photographers." He and his staff volunteer to shoot at least one week each year for nonprofit organizations. Tyler is a Canon USA Explorers of Light Group Member as well as an ambassador for Adobe Systems and the SanDisk Extreme Team. Tyler is a graduate of Dartmouth College. He lives in the Colorado Aspen Valley with his wife, Megan, and children Annabelle and Sam.
